Driftless Area Tour to LaCrosse, WI

Tour - Driftless Area

About this event

The Driftless region in western Wisconsin has been a popular touring area for PCA members and their Porsches. The roads are twisty and picturesque. Dining options are plentiful and the camaraderie we enjoy with other Porsche owners is unmatched.
In the past, the region-sponsored tour has occurred in October to enjoy the fall colors in the beautiful area along the Mississippi River. With the Coronavirus keeping us, and our cars, cooped up for the last several months, it seemed like a good idea to do it in August.
We will plan each portion of the trip with social distancing and safety in mind (see guidelines below).
Patty and Patrick Murphy will be the tour hosts for this year’s Driftless region adventure, while the driving will be led by Tour Committee Chair Jim Lindenberg.
The tour will run from Friday morning, August 7, through Sunday, August 9.
Our base will be the Radisson Hotel on the shore of the Mississippi River in downtown LaCrosse, Wi.  We will stay there two nights and depart from there on Saturday for another day of driving on the twisty, hilly southwestern Wisconsin backroads.
All who register will receive information on the starting point and time for Aug. 7.

Itinerary:
Aug. 7 – Follow-the-leader driving tour to LaCrosse, Wis. (Registrants will receive information on the starting point and time). We are planning to stop for a group lunch in Reedsburg at J’s Pub & Grill.  This lunch is considered optional.  Feel free to opt out and have lunch on your own if you are concerned about distancing issues.
Aug. 8 – Porsches take on more twisty, hilly roads in southwestern Wisconsin. Amazing vistas await. Lunch will be at a Culver’s.
Aug. 9 – Return to SE Wisconsin on your own.
Dinners on Friday and Saturday evening are on your own. We will have several recommendations for you.

Event requirements

All participants (both driver and navigator (if applicable)) must agree to sign two documents: 1) the standard PCA Event Waiver and 2) the PCA COVID-19 Release, in order to participate in the Driftless Area Tour.  We are now enabled to sign both documents electronically on the MotorsportReg ("MSR") website using an app called SpeedWaiver.  There will be a link to the SpeedWaiver app in both the registration confirmation page as well as the confirmation email.  Both signed documents can be downloaded onto your smartphone(s) to be displayed at event check-in.  If any difficulty is experienced in accomplishing this download, please contact Alan Wagner (262) 416-8503.

This tour is one step toward getting back on our busy 2020 schedule that has been derailed by the Coronavirus pandemic.  We will be following health & safety guidelines established specifically for this event.  These guidelines are listed below:

1.    If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home.
2.    Registration for the tour shall be accomplished electronically via MSR (hopefully that's why you are reading this) a minimum of 7 days prior to the tour departure date (i.e., by 10:00 PM CDT on July 31, 2020 aka: the "deadline").
3.    No late, nor on-site, registrations shall be accepted.
4.    The tour leader will provide details of the tour starting location and time by email to registered participants, at least 5 days in advance of the tour start.
5.    Driving directions in the form of a multi-sheet Microsoft Excel spreadsheet will be submitted to all registered participants electronically a minimum of 5 days in advance of the tour date.  Participants shall print said directions (preferably on a color-capable printer because certain critical directions are highlighted in color) and bring them for use on the event.
6.    Both the standard PCA event waiver and the PCA COVID-19 release must be signed electronically by each participant in advance on MotorsportReg.com (“MSR”) and confirmation of signing displayed on each participant's smart phone at check in.
7.    The tour leader will wear a face mask and gloves during the review of waivers on participants’ smart phones.  The participants shall also wear face masks during the check-in process,
8.    During the Drivers’/Navigators’ meeting, and other times together, a minimum of six-foot social distancing and the wearing of face masks is recommended.
9.    No touching of any car (other than your own) shall be allowed.
10.  An optional group lunch is planned for noon on Friday at J's Pub and Grill in Reedsburg, WI.  J's has indicated that tables will be spaced to the extent possible to promote distancing, and some may eat outdoors if the weather cooperates.  However, participants should recognize that distancing is, to a large degree, out of our control, and that they will likely be seated at a table with perhaps 2 or 4 other participants.  If the risk associated with this arrangement is considered excessive, you may opt out of the group lunch.  There are multiple fast-food restaurants within a mile of J's, should you find these option less risky.
11.  There will be no group dinners on either Friday or Saturday evenings as part of this tour because of the pandemic.  Each participant/couple should make their own dinner plans for both evenings.  Participants may, at their own discretion, invite others to join them,  or they may simply elect to eat on their own.
12.   Lunch on Saturday will be at a Culver's restaurant.  Participants may make their own decision whether to join others at a table, or to remain distanced, or whether to eat elsewhere.
