Back of the Dragon Driving Tour
We are pleased to announce a return trip to the Back of the Dragon after the fun trip last fall. The Back of the Dragon is State Route 16 that goes from Marion, Virginia to Tazewell, Virginia in the southwestern part of the State.
An itinerary is being developed and will be finalized closer to the to the event. We anticipate having three drives: the first on Saturday morning, the next on Saturday afternoon before dinner that evening, and then potentially a third drive Sunday morning. These drives will take you to some of the highest elevations in Virginia.
This event is a 2-night stay with arrival on Friday evening, June 9th, and staying through Sunday morning, June 11th. Please note you do not have to stay both nights, but the availability is there for those who choose to do so.

The host hotel with be the General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion, Virginia. We were able to secure 31 of the 36 rooms available at the hotel, so though we don’t have the full run of it, we are close! Information regarding the hotel can be found at this website: https://www.gfmhotel.com/

Let her know that you are part of the Shenandoah Porsche Club. Our group rate will have a 10% discount from the standard rate until May 9. If she is not available, leave a message and she will get back to you.
Please book by May 9th, after that date, we need to let the hotel know our total and they will release the rest of the rooms to the general public.
If the hotel is completely booked, an alternative hotel recommendation is the Comfort Inn in Atkins, Virginia. This hotel is 5 miles from the General Francis Marion Hotel. Phone: (276) 783-2144 We do not have a block of rooms at this hotel, but there should be availability.
